Being foodies, it didn’t take us long to sniff out a few great restaurants in West Hollywood – or more specifically, five minutes from the Mondrian Hotel on Sunset Blvd.
The sexy and stylish Mondrian has a great restaurant, Asia De Cuba but more important is the famous Mondrian Sky Bar and pool. We ate at the restaurant but if we were to wind back the clock, we would have gone straight to the bar pool area and ordered a couple of shared plates.
The pool scene is very Hollywood and over exposed. It is renowned for its Sunday pool parties over the summer. If you are a people watcher you’ll drift into a heavenly space with a mojito in hand – a must.
Directly across the road from the Mondrian is a beautiful Italian looking building, the Piazza del Sol. It has an outside terrace bar but don’t dilly-dally. Inside you’ll find the Katana -a Japanese restaurant. A fav for celebs, so I’m told.
A long bar of skewered morsels from wagyu beef to all sort of fish, chicken vegetables and every combination of. It is called the Robata Bar from the Japanese term robata meaning cooked on a flame. In addition there is an outstanding line up of sushi and special hot and cold section from the kitchen.
Don’t leave without trying spicy tuna on fried sticky rice.
If you after something lighter, cheaper and more casual Chin Chin is a five minutes walk west of Mondrian. We had a great salad there.
Primo, almost next door to Chin Chin has a healthy breakfast menu including a long list of juice and smoothie options.
Wow, the Mojitos are my thing
