The Revenant  (filmed in Alberta, Canada)

Alberta, Canada is so cold in the winter DeCaprio was working in -30C temperatures most of the time. In fact, at one point it reached -40 C.  DeCaprio said they couldn’t open their eyes and finally the camera gear locked. They took a break and suspended production for five weeks.

The majority of this film was filmed in Wall Street, New York as you would imagine, but parts were also filmed in New Orleans. Both are great cities to visit.

The backdrop for Mars was filmed in Wadi Rum which is a stunning UNESCO world heritage site located in Jordan. It’s also known as The Valley of the Moon and is the largest wadi in Jordan. It is home to local Zalabia Bedouins who guide tourists and trekkers through the wadi. They have made a success of developing eco-adventure tourism, now their main source of income. The area is now one of Jordan’s important tourist destinations.
