One of Corsica’s best hotels

We’ve just had three glorious days at the Hotel U Capu Biancu just out of Bonifacio on the south Corsican coast. It’s not often I write solely about a hotel experience, unless it’s exceptional and these guys have nailed it.

Our welcome drink.

It’s a boutique hotel with about 40 rooms, but what makes it so special other than the hotel and its location are the hand-picked staff who have youth and attitude. Most live on the premises for the 6-month season the hotel is open and run around with high energy  and big smiles making sure everyone is happy.

A few step take you to the private beach.

As we were ‘buzzed in’ from the gate, we were greeted before we could open our car door. It all sounds a bit pretentious, but it’s far from it. The front desk, youthful beauties just wanted to welcome us.

Despite the sea being a little chilly in May, the pool was heated to 28 degrees celsius.

Ravenous, we headed to lunch. With a glass of sparkling water and a delicious amuse bouche of asparagus soup and with caviar (to keep the wolf from the door) we knew we were in for a sensational lunch. For the first time ever we were presented with the menu on a tablet. With a touch of the screen we had the lunch menu… entrée, and then (main) and desert in English.

The tablet with the days’ menu and wine list. Great to read it in the language of your choice.

Updated daily, the comprehensive food and wine menus were easy to use, especially in your own tongue. There are three languages available, French, English and German.

The food, the knowledgeable sommelier, the breakfast, the pool, the spa and gym, the music, the beach, the home-grown vegetables and herbs and eggs from the resident chickens – it was all faultless. The hotel is rated 4-star, but I’m not quite sure why as it is far superior to many 5-star hotels we have stayed. But don’t be fooled, they charge accordingly.

Take a look at the photo galley and if I haven’t convinced you already, this is a worthwhile experience, in Corsica.

One of the many private sitting areas.

The reception area.
