We set off the other morning from our hotel, the Muottas Muragl at the top of the cable car, to walk to Alp Languard, about a 3.5-hour hike.
The trail took us into the valley where the cows could be heard from afar and the mountains surrounded us.The highest peak was Piz Bernina at 4,049 metres.
We had a delicious lunch at the alpine restaurant, Alp Languard, were I sampled some great local food, Pizzoccheri alla valtellinese (buckwheat noodles, potatoes with savoy cabbage and mountain cheese). It was filling but I couldn’t leave the Graubunden canton without trying their specialty dish.
After lunch we rode the chair lift down the mountain into the very beautiful town of Pontresina and did an e-bike tour of the village, visiting the church of Santa Maria where frescoes remain from the 12th century – a highlight.
